The Vietnamese Government, international donors and the United Nations have reiterated their commitment to helping Vietnam retain its strong position in UN reforms.

The stakeholders made the commitment at an annual meeting to review the UN’s work in Vietnam held in Hanoi on November 22.

Addressing the event, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta spoke highly of the Vietnamese Government for its strong leadership in the pilot “Delivering as One” (DAO) Initiative that she said has been hailed worldwide.

The DAO initiative sets out a reform of the UN’s operations in a way that aligns closely to national realities, especially in average-income countries.

Over the past five years, she said Vietnam’s strong determination has been clearly reflected in the UN’s development agenda in the country and has proven crucial to the success of the initiative.

In the recent past the UN has made the best use of its professional expertise spanning across diverse areas and mobilised all possible resources for Vietnam’s socio-economic development.-VNA
