The Thai Foreign Ministry said on August 18 that the UN-ASEAN Summit in Thailand is cancelled because UN chief Ban Ki-moon could not attend the event slated for October due to his busy schedule.

The ministry’s Director of ASEAN Affairs Vitavas Srivihok said the UN Chief could not leave the UN headquarter to meet ASEAN leaders on the sideline of the ASEAN Summit to be held between October 23 and 25 as he has to attend the UN Day on Oct.24.

This is the second time the plan to hold a summit between the UN and ASEAN has been cancelled. In early April, the UN-ASEAN Summit, scheduled to take place in Pattaya , Thailand , was postponed due to political disturbances in the host country./.
