Resident Representative of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Vietnam , Vu Anh Son, has pledged 150,000 USD in funding for the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak to build three kindergartens there.

The provincial People’s Committee office on July 13 said that the three kindergartens will be built in the three extremely disadvantaged districts: Buon Don, MD’rak, and Ea H’leo.

The kindergartens, which are part of the UNHCR’s programme to support the building of schools in disadvantaged communes in ethnic minority areas, are expected to put into use by the end of this year.

The UNHCR representative pledged to continue assisting Dak Lak to build other educational facilities.

Meanwhile, the Vinacapital Foundation (VCF) will dole out nearly 70,000 USD to finance a programme to save the lives of 80 children from poor families with congenital heart disease in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa this year.

VCF signed an agreement on the funding with the provincial Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs department on July 13.

Between 2007 and 2008, the VCF has given Khanh Hoa a total of 5 billion VND (more than 277,700 USD) in sponsorship for heart surgery for more than 130 children of poor families in rural and remote areas and at the same time provided the provincial general hospital with medical equipment to improve its treatment of diseases of the heart./.
