The insignia presentation has been made inrecognition of Jason Eligh’s great contributions to preventing andcontrolling drug abuse and the HIV epidemic among Vietnam’s ethnicpeople.
Jason Eligh and his colleagues joineddomestic and international organisations and local authorities toprevent drug use and the spread of HIV in ethnic-inhabited regionsthrough disseminating information and educating local people to raisetheir awareness on the issue. They have also built a typicalcommunity-based rehabilitation model at the Muong Hum commune, Bat Xatdistrict of the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai.
The Committee also hailed UNODC’s important role and contributions toVietnam’s drug prevention and control. Thanks to the UN body’sfinancial and technical assistance, the Vietnamese Government’santi-drug programme has accessed international information andexperiences and successfully organised effective and synchronousactivities.
Addressing the presentation ceremony inHanoi on August 2, Jason Eligh said he was happy to receive thehonourable award and thanked the Vietnamese partners for theirassistance.
He said he wished to make further contributions to the development of Vietnam’s ethnic people./.
