A delegation from the Foreign Ministry of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay led by Deputy Minister Luis Porto is paying a visit to Vietnam from October 3-5.
During the visit, Deputy Foreign Minister Luis Porto and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Phuong Nga conducted the first political consultation meeting between the two foreign ministries.
The two sides briefed each other on each country’s situation and recognised the positive development in bilateral ties, particularly the outcomes of visits made by the two countries’ leaders such as the trips to Vietnam by President Tabare Vazquez in 2007 and Vice President Danilo Astori in 2012, as well as the Uruguay visit by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan in 2009.
Deputy FM Porto congratulated Vietnam on the success in its renewal cause, which helps raise the country’s prestige in the world arena. He affirmed Uruguay consistently considers Vietnam as an important partner in East Asia, and is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in the potential fields of economics, trade, agriculture, telecommunication and oil and gas.
For her part, Deputy FM Nga said Vietnam hopes to enhance the growing friendship and cooperation with Uruguay , and wishes that Uruguay soon recognise Vietnam ’s market oriented economy.
The two sides agreed to accelerate negotiations for an early signing of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) and establish a joint committee for economic and trade cooperation, creating a legal framework for their economic-trade and investment cooperation.
They exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, and agreed that the two countries will continue to coordinate at international organisations and multilateral forums for the interest of the two peoples as well as of regional and world’s peace, stability and prosperity.-VNA
