Representatives of leading US businesses met with the President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, on June 2 in Hanoi, expressing their desires to invest more deeply in Vietnam’s market.

During their visit to Vietnam, the representatives of the firms, which are operating in insurance, energy, and education and training, discussed with Vietnamese government officials and the local business community how to boost bilateral trade relations and hasten the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement negotiations.

They expressed their hope to work with governments of ASEAN member nations and business partners to speed up the establishment of an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

Nhan, also a Politburo member, briefed US guests on Vietnam’s socio-economic development, its competitive advantages and major development goals and orientations by 2020.

The host and guests also examined Vietnam’s current economic situation, its investment opportunities, efforts to build the ASEAN community and the TPP negotiations.

The visit was conducted by the US-ASEAN Business Council, the leading organisation in promoting their trade relations. Its success demonstrates the US enterprise community’s confidence in prosperous economic development in Southeast Asia, including in Vietnam.-VNA
