Phnom Penh (VNA) – The US Government has recently committed an additional 1.5 million USD in funds to assist Cambodia’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the US Embassy in Cambodia’s April 27 press release.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the US has committed over 3.5 million USD in total through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to mitigate the spread of the disease in the Southeast Asian country.

US Ambassador Patrick Murphy said that the additional assistance will help Cambodia’s health system track the disease, treat those infected with the coronavirus, and prevent further virus transmission.

The risk of COVID-19 infection in Cambodia remains at an alarming level, although it had recorded no new cases for the 16th consecutive day on April 28.

By the day, the country confirmed 122 infection cases, of whom 119 fully recovered. However, the spokesperson of the Cambodian Health Ministry Or Vandine said that the country is still in the first phase of the disease and the second wave of infections can appear at any times./.
