The US government through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide over 2.1 million USD in non-refundable aid to implement Vietnam’s project “Supporting the Implementation of Labour Law and Promotion of Sound Industrial Relations”.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed in Hanoi on August 5 between Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Trong Dam and US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael W. Michalak.
Under the MoU, the two-year project will focus on supporting the Ministry to develop national strategies on industrial relations, strengthen labour inspectorate capacity and enhance industrial relations information systems.
It also assists Vietnam General Confederation of Labour in further strengthening the union movement at various levels and supports employer organisations in promoting best practices in the workplace by virtue of labour laws.
Addressing the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Dam commended the US for its support and expressed his belief that the project would provide sound policy recommendations and best practical initiatives regarding the enhancement of labour law implementation and promotion of sound industrial relations.
Ambassador Michalak said this cooperation shows that the government of Vietnam is expressing increased interest in strengthening the implementation of labour law and promoting sound industrial relations that will contribute to economic growth, foreign investment and international economic integration./.
