Hanoi (VNA) - US President Donald Trump departed the G7 summit in Charlevoix, Canada on June 9 (Canada time) for Singapore where he will meet Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un.

Speaking to the press before departing for Singapore, Trump said he is going on “a mission of peace” and this unprecedented summit will be an only opportunity for the DPRK leader.

According to a source from the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trump and Kim will arrive in Singapore on June 10 and then they are scheduled to meet at Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island at 9am on June 12. The meeting will focus on the denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

Singaporean police said they are deploying security measures to prepare for the historic meeting, with the establishment of “special event areas” from June 10-14 around Capella Hotel under the Public Order Act.

Security will be tightened on streets surrounding these “special event areas” and people and vehicles travelling to these areas will be closely controlled.

In addition, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued on their websites a notice to airlines and pilots that airspace over Singapore will be temporarily restricted for parts of June 11, 12 and 13.

Flights arriving to Singapore Changi Airport will be required to reduce speed and face some restrictions on runway use "for reasons of national security", the notice said.-VNA
