The foreign ministers of the United States, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan will meet on December 6 in Washington to discuss the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula, reported the US State Department on December 1.

The meeting aims to demonstrate the close coordination between the three countries and their commitment to security on the Korean Peninsula and stability in the region, according to Philip Crowley, a spokesman for the US State Department.

Tensions persist on the Korean Peninsula after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the RoK exchanged artillery fire on November 23, leaving four dead and arousing concerns from the international community.

In another vein, on December 1, China and the DPRK pledged to cement legislative ties during their talks in Beijing between the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China Wu Bangguo and Chairman of the DPRK’s Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) Choe Tae Bok.

Chairman Wu said he hoped the current visit to China by Chairman Choe will boost bilateral relations and ties between the two nations’ legislatures.

China hopes to work with the DPRK to carry out their leaders wishes while maintaining high-level exchanges and stepping up strategic consultations, said Wu.

Choe hailed China 's reforms and its open policy as well as its drive for modernisation and said he hoped the Chinese people will make further progress in building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Choe began his five day visit to China on November 30, according to Xinhua news agency./.
