The Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project in conjunction with the US Embassy in Hanoi has launched a mural contest on the theme of langur monkeys to raise public awareness of the need to protect this rare species.

The contest is open to residents of Vietnam and the winner will receive a 10 million VND prize. The winning entry will be re-created at the entrance to Cat Ba’s National Park.

Cat Ba Island is the world’s only natural habitat of the langur. In the 1960s, nearly 3,000 lived on the island, but at present, fewer than 70 individuals survive. The Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project has worked for 12 years to protect this critically endangered monkey and contribute to the conservation of Cat Ba archipelago’s biodiversity.-VNA
