Deputy Minister of Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh received Frank A Rose, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Defence Policy in Hanoi on March 7.
The US official is currently on a working visit to Vietnam.
General Vinh, who is also a Party Central Committee member, spoke highly of the growing comprehensive partnership between the two countries, noting the defence ties that are becoming more efficient.
He expressed his wish that both sides will continue working together to materialise the joint initiatives stated in their 2011 Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperation.
The military official laid special stress on cooperative activities relating to the clearance of unexploded ordnance left over from the war and the search for US servicemen who went missing in action during the war.
He also underlined the importance of conducting exchanges between the two countries’ navies and maritime police.-VNA
