Thirty-five Vietnamese doctors who specialise in spinal orthopaedics across the country are attending a week-long training course jointly held by the Vietnam Orthopaedics Association (VOA) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

At the course, which started on May 14, the trainees discussed diseases related to backbones, including spinal deformities in children.

Both the trainers and trainees provided a diagnosis and consultation for 30 patients needing spinal column treatment and conducted surgery on five children patients with backbone deformities free of charge.

According to Doctor Vo Van Thanh, the President of the VOA, patients with backbone diseases need to receive treatment as soon as possible. Patients who are only diagnosed as having a condition at a later date may face difficulties during treatment and could be in danger during surgery.

The cost of each operation ranged between 50-70 million VND, he added./.
