Leading surgeons from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Vietnam Gastroenterology Association have started to transfer gastrointestinal and urinary tract endoscopic techniques to their Vietnamese colleagues.

Under the three-day programme, more than 60 Vietnamese doctors from 20 cities and provinces nationwide will learn theories and practices of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and other techniques in the field through the surgery on 23 patients in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa.

The technique transfer is expected to help improve the quality of the diseases diagnosis and treatment at not only Khanh Hoa but also other hospitals, said Khanh Hoa Hospital’s Deputy Director Nguyen Van Xang.

The programme that will last until Nov. 10 is organised by the Khanh Hoa General Hospital and the Cho Ray Hospital in association with the ASGE and the Vietnam Gastroenterology Association./.
