The US Aid to Children without Parents organisation will give nearly 560 million VND (26,320 USD) to a one-year project targeting poor children in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue .

Implemented from now in Quang Dien and Phu Vang districts and Huong Tra town, the project will provide free check-ups and hepatitis B vaccinations for 600 children and perform surgery for 15 disabled children.

Scholarships will also be presented to outstanding students from poor households, while their families will be provided with assistance in cow breeding.

The province has also received a non-refundable project worth 2.9 billion VND (136,300 USD) funded by Sweden ’s Adoptions Centrum, which will help strengthen the self-reliance of women and girls in rural and mountainous areas.

The project will be carried out over three years in Phu Loc district’s Loc Bon, Loc Dien, Loc Tri and Xuan Loc communes.

Under the project, 200 local women will receive training in soft skills and ways to seek sustainable livelihoods. Dialogues will also be held for women, men and local officials in target areas on women’s right of participating in decision making in family as well as social activities.-VNA
