US, Vietnam assist Laos in internet policy

US telecoms company Dot VN, Inc. will partner with the Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) to assist Laos in developing an internet policy and managing the ccTLD".LA" domain registration programme.

Dot VN, Inc., which is headquartered in San Diego, California, said in a press release issued on June 22 that it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the VNNIC, under which the two will assist the Lao National Internet Committee (LANIC) in the development and growth of the Lao country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) ".LA" and promote the use of the Lao internet worldwide.

The agreement further provides that Dot VN, Inc. and VNNIC will cooperate to assist LANIC in developing an internet management policy and provide operational training, a domain registration platform, a registrar network, a global marketing and promotion strategy, and world class infrastructure.

Dot VN, Inc. President Lee Johnson said the agreement not only further strengthens its continuing partnership with VNNIC, but also signifies the success the company have achieved in helping to further the development of the internet in Vietnam, which he is confident that the company can replicate in Laos.

"The MOU is a reaffirmation of our business strategy as we seek to extend our business model outside of Vietnam and capitalise on the rapid growth of the telecommunications and technology industries throughout the Asian region," Johnson said./.
