The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a letter of intent to promote green energy sustainability in Vietnam in Hanoi on July 29.

The two sides will focus on initiatives relating to building capacity and implementing effective energy policies as well as measures to improve energy efficiency in high- energy demand areas of the economy such as the government’s energy projects, the private sector and other related parties in implementing renewal energy projects in Vietnam.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister Cao Quoc Hung said bilateral cooperation, particularly USAID’s support in the field, will help Vietnam grow in energy and climate change resilience.

According to USAID Director Joakim Parker, a five-year technical assistanceprogramme will be introduced to help develop clean energy and improve energy efficiency in the country.

USAID has supported Vietnam’s efforts to cope with climate change through several initiatives, including the Forest and Delta Vietnam project, Vietnam Clean Energy project and a project to improve capacity and reform institutions towards green growth and sustainable development.-VNA
