Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have voiced their hopes for positive progress resulting in from the upcoming DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam.

In a statement issued one day ahead of the summit, which will take place in Hanoi on February 27-28, Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi noted that in 2019, the world will see new hopes and challenges. Especially, this week, the upcoming summit has earned attention of international community.

He expressed his hope that the upcoming summit could create new advances towards the denuclearisation and establishment of sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The same day, spokesperson of the RoK presidential office Kim Eui-kyeom voiced expectations for progress which could be reached during the summit.

The two leaders could meet face-to-face at least five times during the two days of the summit, which may bring about remarkable progress, the RoK official added. He reiterated the possibility that a statement which declares the end of the Korean War (1950-1953) would be issued at the event.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un arrived in Hanoi on February 26 morning, while US President Donald Trump is expected to arrive in the evening of the same day. An announcement of the US’ White House said the leaders will have their first face-to-face meeting during dinner on February 27.-VNA
