The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has decided to provide a non-refundable aid package worth nearly 502,000 USD to support technology for a mud treatment project in Ho Chi Minh City.

An agreement on the aid was signed in Ho Chi Minh City on September 1 by representatives from the USTDA and the Saigon Water Supply Corporation (SAWACO).

The project to treat mud in the Thu Duc Water Plant has a total investment of close to 676,000 USD. In addition to the USTDA funds, US-based CDM International, Inc. is contributing over 125,300 USD in its official development assistance and the remaining 49,040 USD is in counter-funding from the SAWACO.

Under the agreement, SAWACO is expected to receive a feasibility study on methods to safely and effectively treat and reuse mud discharged from all the water treatment plants in Ho Chi Minh City, for which the company is the sole operator.

The project, which also supports efforts to protect the Saigon and Dong Nai river systems, is expected to be carried out over a period of 20 months./.
