Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) - The central province of Thua Thien-Hue is speeding up the removal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the Hue Imperial Citadel as part of a land clearance project.

The project is being implemented with a budget of nearly 4.1 trillion VND (174.12 million USD). Comprising two phases, it is projected to run to 2025.

A 21-member team from Engineer Corps 414 of Military Region 4 has worked to remove war-time UXO at sites managed by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre.

Head of the team, Senior Lieutenant Truong Hong Hai, said that over the past month it has detected about 100 shells and mortars some 1.2 to 1.5 metres underground.

The team will continue to clear the remaining UXO on an area of about 60 ha, including roads outside the Imperial Citadel, he added./.
