The “Dang ta that la vi dai!” (Great is Our Party!) exhibition opens at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts in the capital city of Hanoi on January 18 to welcome the upcoming 13th National Party Congress and to mark the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s 91st founding anniversary (February 3, 1930 – 2021). A variety of valuable books, documents and archives on the past 12 National Congresses of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) are showcased at the exhibition, giving the public an insight of the CPV’s important milestones in its 91-year history and its leadership in the country’s “Doi moi” and construction processes. The CPV was established in Hong Kong (China) in February 1930, and its first National Congress took place in Macau, China, from March 27 – 31, 1935, with the participation of 13 delegates from domestic Party committees as well as overseas Party organisations. Since its establishment, the Party has held 12 National Congresses, each of which marked important historical milestones in recognising the Vietnamese revolution's victories, achievements and lessons. The official document ordering the establishment of the Vietnam Armed Propaganda Unit for National Liberation, the first major unit of the revolutionary armed forces and the predecessor of the Vietnam People’s Army, in December 1944 (right). The exhibition features multiple sections. A section showcases photos and archives on the CPV’s history. It tells stories about what led to the establishment of the Party – a vanguard for the working class – on February 3, 1930, the role of President Ho Chi Minh as its founder, and how the Party gathered people from all walks of life to build revolutionary forces and achieved a glorious victory in the August General Uprising in 1945, setting the scene for the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. A pair of rubber sandals (right) belonging to Bui Duc Tue, a former volunteer soldier. He wore them, made from old automobile tire, when serving in the war against the French colonialists, particularly during the 55-day Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954. Vietnam’s historical victory in the battle forced the French government to sign the Geneva Agreement later that year, recognising independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the three Indochinese countries, ending Vietnam’s long resistance war. Also on display at the exhibition are the Politburo’s Directive 05-CT/TW dated May 15, 2016, on enhancing the studying and following of President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle; and the 11^th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No.12-NQ/TW, dated January 16, 2012, on current urgent issues on Party building. Some of the keepsakes astronauts Pham Tuan of Vietnam and Viktor Vasilyevich Gorbatko of the USSR brought along when they flew to space together in July 1980. Tuan became the first Vietnamese and also Asian who made it into the space. He was then awarded the title of “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces”.
