President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) Nguyen Xuan Thang on August 12 delivered a speech on new political situation and economic order in Asia at the India Habitat Centre.
Speaking before a crowd of politicians, scholars, journalists and diplomats, the scholar analysed the impacts of political crises on the world and region’s economy, noting that the new economic order in Asia can be divided into the group of major economies of China, Japan, India and the Republic of Korea, the newly-emerging economies of China and India, the newly-industrialised economies and the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) economies.
He highlighted the big changes in the world economic system, with China surpassing Japan to become the world’s second largest economy, while newly emerging economies including India, Russia, Brazil and several developing economies are asserting their viewpoints and resolve for renewing international relations.
The scholar said India is likely to become the fourth largest economy in the next decade, after the US, China and Japan, and as such, the country will get more involved in Southeast Asia’s security issues, particularly maritime security.
According to him, India will continue to be an important factor in establishing the power order in Asia-Pacific.
He went on to say that the fine relations between Vietnam and India will grow both in depth and scale. The two countries will expand their ties in many fields, especially in economics, trade, education, information technology and infrastructure.-VNA
