Mexico City (VNA) – The Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela, in collaboration with the institute for strategic and operational studies under the Venezuelan Ministry of Defence, organised a seminar on November 20 on the formation and development process of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on the occasion of the VPA’s 80th founding anniversary (December 22, 1944 - 2024).

Recalling the heroic milestones of the VPA, Vietnamese Ambassador to Venezuela Vu Trung My said that on December 22, 1944, following the directive of President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Team - the predecessor of today's Vietnam People's Army, was established with an initial strength of 34 soldiers and 34 guns.

Inheriting and promoting the spirit of patriotism, and the quintessence of the unique military art of the Vietnamese people, and thanks to the support of international friends, the army has continuously developed over the past 80 years, always showing the mettle of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people, worthy of being a special political force, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy combat force of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, My added.

Speaking at the event, Colonel Richard Ruiz Álvarez, IESEOFANB Deputy Director, expressed his admiration for the great achievements of the Vietnam People's Army in the resistance wars against foreign invaders and in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. Mentioning the VPA’s achievements, he praised the role and contributions of the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap, an excellent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh and the first commander of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army Unit. In addition, the general made great contributions to the formation and development of Vietnam's military doctrine, which is the people's war strategy, using justice to defeat brutality.

Ambassador My and Colonel Vu The Trung, Vietnam's Defence Attaché in Venezuela, also answered many questions, helping IESEOFANB students better understand the situation in Vietnam, the achievements of the renewal cause, the foreign policy as well as defence policy of Vietnam, and the traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Venezuela, especially as the two countries are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (December 18, 1989 - 2024)./.
