The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on August 30 granted eight vessels with Directorate of Fisheries licences to operate in Indonesian waters for 12 months.

The vessels, departing for the target fishing grounds on the same day, are owned by Chairman of the Fisheries Association of the province’s Rach Gia city Truong Van Ngu, and Tran Hon from the city’s An Hoa ward.

Truong Van Ngu said that each trip to Indonesia’s waters will last for 30 days, and each pair of vessels will pay 90,000 USD in fees to Indonesia every year.

The catch will be delivered to Kien Giang province to be processed for export and the domestic market, he added.

The licences for the boats to fish Indonesia’s waters was granted by the Directorate of Fisheries under an agreement with the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.-VNA
