Hanoi (VNA) – The Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) on June 25 sent sympathies to authorities and families affected by floods in the northern mountainous provinces of Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Yen Bai and Lao Cai.

The message noted that downpours and floods over the past days have caused serious human and property damage in the four provinces.

It quoted the Central Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and control as reporting that at least 14 people were killed, 11 others went missing and seven were injured in floods. While tens of houses collapsed or were washed away, hundreds of hectares of rice and other crops were inundated and destroyed.

The VFFCC Standing Board highly valued the local administrations, organisations, agencies and armed forces’ sense of responsibility when they have been making efforts to search for the missing and supporting flood victims.

In the message, the Standing Board also offered condolences to the bereaved families.

The VFFCC asked the VFF committees of Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Yen Bai and Lao Cai to coordinate with the provinces’ authorities to survey and report on human and property damage to the central committee so as to send relief to local victims.

The VFFCC Standing Board is set to initially support bereaved families with 5 million VND (nearly 220 USD) for each case of death and each injured people with 3 million VND (over 130 USD).-VNA
