Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan on June 21 held talks with Cuban First Vice President of the Council of State Miguel Diaz Canel, who is visiting Vietnam at her invitation.

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, Vice President Doan welcomed the Cuban official and his entourage, who are in Vietnam at a time when the two countries are to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cuban Leader Fidel Castro’s historical visit to Vietnam.

She emphasised Vietnam’s consistent policy of unceasingly deepening the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese Vice President talked about measures to increase cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economics, trade and investment. She suggested that the Cuban side creates conditions for Vietnamese businesses to take part in new cooperation projects.

She also welcomed Cuba ’s proposal to build a medium-term economic agenda between the two sides.

First Vice President Miguel Diaz Canel appreciated the achievements Vietnam has gained over the past time.

The two leaders discussed and agreed on measures to further strengthen and deepen the special ties between the two countries, including the continued exchange of all-level delegations.

They said the two sides should continue bringing into play cooperation mechanisms to enhance their bilateral cooperation in the agreed fields, such as agriculture and rice supply, and establish new cooperation fields such as telecommunications, biotechnology, pharmacy, tourism infrastructure, gas and oil, electronics and light industry.

The two leaders also exchanged opinions on a number of international and regional issues of common concern. -VNA
