Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan had talks with her visiting Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachith in Hanoi on July 7, during which both sides expressed delight at the growing ties between the two countries in all fields.

The two sides agreed to continue increasing visits by senior leaders, coordinating in realising agreements reached during the 37th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee, and preparing for the 38th meeting of the committee, slated for later this year in Laos.

The leaders concurred that the two countries will also work together in organising big anniversaries of both countries, including the 70 th National Day of Vietnam, the 40th National Day of Laos and the 95th birth anniversary of late Lao President Kayson Phomvihane.

They agreed to effectively implement agreements between the two Foreign Ministries, including the organisation of the annual ministerial consultation meeting in late 2015.

Vietnam and Laos will work for the early signing of a protocol on borderline and border marker as well as a treaty on the regulations for border and border gate management before the end of 2015, they said.

The two leaders pledged to push the effectively implementation of the new Vietnam-Laos trade agreement and the bilateral border trade agreement, while speeding up energy and transport connectivity projects.

Vietnam will step up investment projects in Laos and coordinating with the Lao side in reviewing the projects for timely settlement of investors’ difficulties. Both countries will also continue with the project to enhance bilateral cooperation in education and human resources development for the 2011-20 period.

During the talks, the two Vice Presidents also discussed regional and international of shared concern.

They concurred to foster coordination at regional and international forums, while working with other ASEAN countries for the successful formation of the ASEAN Community later this year, as well as the maintenance of the bloc’s central role in strategic matters of the region.

The two sides stressed the importance of maintaining peace, stability and maritime and aviation safety and security in the East Sea in line with international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as the strict implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the soon formation of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan pledged that Vietnam will support Laos in performing the role of the ASEAN Chair in 2016.

On the occasion, Bounnhang Vorachith invited Vice President Doan to visit Laos within this year and received her acceptance.

After the talks, Vice President Doan hosted a banquet for her counterpart and the Lao delegation.

The Lao Vice President is on an official visit at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart from July 6-8.-VNA
