A delegation of the Senate of Japan led by Vice President Azuma Koshiishi has paid a working visit to Laos.

While in Vientiane, Koshiishi and Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phonvihane held talks on August 25. They expressed their pleasure at the development of friendship and cooperation since the two countries established their diplomatic ties in 1955.

They agreed to continue providing mutual support and assistance while enhancing experience sharing to increase Japan’s investment in Laos.

They also agreed to continue cooperating at regional and international fora, especially within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and the Assembly of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The Japanese pledged to help Laos in personnel training.

Saysomphone Phonvihane highly valued Koshiishi’s Laos visit, saying that it has contributed to developing and increasing friendship and cooperation between the two countries as well as the two legislative agencies.

During his stay in Laos, Koshiishi was received by Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and National Assembly Chairman Pany Yathotou./
