Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan hosted a reception in Hanoi on November 13 for former Canadian Governor General Michaëlle Jean, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

Michaëlle Jean said Vietnam is an important partner of Canada in Asia-Pacific, and there is still much room for bilateral cooperation.

Vietnam has actively contributed to the Francophone community, whose internal partnership can be even further expanded thanks to Vietnam’s cooperation and investment activities in Africa, she added.

The Vice President expressed her delight at flourishing relations between Vietnam and Canada.

She agreed with Michaëlle Jean’s proposal on linking the University of Ottawa and a Vietnamese university and giving priorities to joint scientific studies and expressed wishes to step up education links with Canada.

She also suggested the Francophone community foster the teaching and learning of the French language, thus expanding member countries’ cooperation to other spheres.

Vietnam will fulfill its missions as a member of the Francophone community so as to consolidate the solidarity and economic cooperation within the grouping, she said.-VNA
