According to the document, the Deputy PM asked the Ministry of Transport to consider the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VA)’s proposals and then report to the Prime Minister.
On March 12, VA suggested the Prime Minister not approve VJA’s plan to sell 30 percent of its stake to Malaysia’s budget carrier AirAsia to establish a low-cost airline named VietJet AirAsia.
In document No. 5166 issued in 2007, the Prime Minister asked Vietnamese authorised agencies and businesses to report to him before signing cooperation agreements with foreign partners regarding air transport activities.
VietJet now accounts for nearly 7 percent of Vietnam’s aviation market while VA holds the largest market share of 70 percent./.
