Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Airlines and Bangkok Airways of Thailand have inked a codeshare agreement on air routes between the two countries.

Under the deal, passengers can buy Vietnam Airlines tickets for flights from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok and then get on Bangkok Airways flights to Thai destinations, including Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, and Chiang Rai. They only need to book a seat with Vietnam Airlines and have procedures for the whole journey handled for one time by this carrier.

Vietnam Airlines Director General Duong Tri Thanh said the cooperation between the two four-star airlines will offer passengers more choices to visit famous tourist attractions in Thailand and Vietnam while providing consistent service quality.

President of Bangkok Airways Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth said the codeshare will make it easier for his firm’s passengers to come to Vietnamese destinations and for Vietnam Airlines’ passengers to reach well-known places in Thailand.

According to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, the aviation market of Southeast Asia is highly potential as seen in its strong growth and big travel demand. Six of the 11 Southeast Asian countries recorded double-digit growth rates in terms of the number of passengers.

The number of seats provided for Thailand-Vietnam flights increased by 30 percent last year and almost doubled that in five years ago. This upward trend is forecast to continue in the years ahead.

Bangkok Airways is the first private carrier of Thailand to win the “Best Regional Airline in Asia” award by SkyTrax in 2017. It began air transportation services in 1968 and now provides flights to more than 20 destinations in Thailand and Asia.-VNA
