High Commissioner for Agriculture of the European Union Janusz Wojciechowski paid a visit to Vietnam from July 10 to July 14/2022.

Accompanying him was a business delegation of 50 high-level representatives in the field of agri-food products, mainly meats, dairy products, wines, spirits, fruits, and vegetables.

The purpose of the trip is to create favorable conditions for the export of European agricultural products and beverages to Vietnam and to exploit the positive results of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

Before the trip, High Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski said: “Vietnam has become an important partner of the EU in Southeast Asia after the EUFTA comes into force in 2020. My visit, along with a business delegation of the EU in the agricultural sector, will contribute to exploiting new trade opportunities.”

Currently, the EU is Vietnam's leading trading partner and also a key export market for Vietnamese agricultural products and food.

The EU is also an important supplier of Vietnam, especially input materials for the agricultural industry. With the existing cooperation platform and the great advantages of the EVFTA, the two sides will continue to coordinate and assist in facilitating goods access to each other's markets, minimizing technical barriers, and cooperating to build a diversified and sustainable supply chain.

In the first 5 months of 2022, the import and export turnover of goods between Vietnam and the EU reached 26.25 billion USD, up 15% over the same period last year.

Vietnam's goods exports to most markets in the EU recorded good growth. Notably, export turnover to many major markets in the EU achieved double-digit growth.

In particular, Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery exports to the EU reached US$2.05 billion, up 37.5% over the same period in 2021./.
