In 2020 and 2021, Vietnam and the United States increased phone exchanges and online meetings between senior leaders. Vietnam is the largest group of Southeast Asian students in the United States, with about 30,000 students.

In 2021, the US government donated more than 90,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and two million doses of the Moderna vaccine to support Vietnam in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic.

In the field of defense and security, the two sides have stepped up cooperation in many projects such as cleaning up Bien Hoa airport, supporting people with disabilities, clearing landmines, and searching for MIA American soldiers.
