Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh has asked the World Bank (WB) to provide more financial and technical assistance to help Vietnam successfully restructure its economy, particularly in financial and banking sector.

Receiving WB Country Director in Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa in Hanoi on August 8, Deputy PM Ninh informed his guest that the Government of Vietnam is drastically restructuring the economy, focusing on public investment, financial and banking sector and State-owned enterprises (SOEs).

He said Vietnam needs help in order to improve State management and supervisory role in SOEs, build legal documents regulating State-owned corporations’ operations and enhance SOEs’ capacity in business, human resource and supervision.

The WB Country Director affirmed that the bank backs Vietnam’s ongoing restructuring schemes and will continue to provide additional resources to accelerate their implementation process.

Along with the International Monetary Fund, the WB has helped Vietnam draw up a panoramic picture of its financial system, thereby offering suggestions to put the sector back on a sustainable and stable footing.-VNA
