Vietnam attended the 6 th Asian nuclear power conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on January 27 and 28.
The event attracted nearly 200 representatives and specialists from international firms in the field including Rosatom (Russia), Areva (France), Mitsubishi and Toshiba (Japan), GDZ Suez (Belgium), and Westinghouse (US).
The Vietnamese delegation to the conference was led by Director of the Information Centre on Nuclear Energy under the Hanoi University of Science and Technology Ha Manh Thu.
In a report delivered at the event, Thu said Vietnam is bolstering its human resources training in the area.
He also mentioned the prospect of developing national nuclear power infrastructure in Vietnam, and the progress of the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project.
Delegations at the event discussed major topics relating to challenges and difficulties in developing new nuclear power in Asia, including nuclear waste management, new nuclear power reactors, and collaboration with local industries in the nuclear power supply chain.
A nuclear power exhibit was also held during the two-day event, with contributions from Rosatom, Westinghouse, GE-Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba and Malaysia’s nuclear power department.-VNA
