Vietnam attends forum of graduates in Russia

The three-day event has drawn the participation of more than 800 delegates from 170 countries. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Tran Dinh Long, INKORVUZ Vice Chairman, and head of the Association of Vietnamese Graduates of the Russian Higher Educational Institutions.

Addressing the event, Russian Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov said that over one million people in 170 countries graduated from Russia’s universities. There are now 250,000 foreign students from 150 countries are currently studying in the country.

Livanov said that the forum aims to strengthen and expand Russia ’s relationship with countries which have graduates from Russia , many of whom are now heads of state, ministers and famous scientists.

Vietnam has about 40,000 officials and specialists who received their higher education in the Soviet Union. Currently, more than 5,000 Vietnamese are studying in Russia universities.

Speaking to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Moscow, Long said that during the three-day event, the Vietnamese delegation will make specific proposals to strengthen cooperation and contacts between graduates from Russia in the world and each region.

It will suggest the establishment of a forum of graduates of Russian higher educational institutions in Southeast Asia and the regular organisation of regional forums as previously held in Nepal, Vietnam and China, he said.

He added that this forum is expected to approve a decision to set up the headquarters of the forum at the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), which aims to further cooperation and contacts between those graduates.

The first INKORVUZ forum took place in 2003 with nearly 500 participants and the second one was organised in 2007, gathering 700 delegates from more than 110 countries.-VNA
