Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Cuong cut the ribbon to open the Vietnamese booth at the event.

On the occasion, the ambassador held a discussion with Vietnamese exporters on the US’ catfish supervision programme under the 2014 Agricultural Act and the administrative reviews targeting Vietnam’s shrimp and tra fish. He affirmed that the Embassy and trade representative offices in the US are working hard together with the businesses in protecting the legitimate interests of Vietnamese seafood exporters and producers as well as millions of farmers.

At the same time, the ambassador urged seafood businesses to pay more attention to improving their product quality in order to develop their market.

Aquatic products rank fourth among Vietnam’s exports to the US with nearly 1.5 billion USD in turnover in 2013. Two-way trade between Vietnam and the US totaled 30 billion USD last year, of which Vietnam’s exports to the US valued at 23.9 billion USD.

The 2014 Seafood Expo North America, the largest seafood trade event in North America, lasts from March 16-18. This year, it attracts over 19,000 buyers and suppliers of fresh, frozen and packaged products from more than 100 countries across the world.-VNA
