A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Chairman of the External Relations Commission, attended the opening session of the 6 th General Conference of the Palestinian Fatah Party in Bethlehem city on August 4.

The conference, the first held in Palestine , was attended by over 1,800 full-members from Palestine as well as overseas Fatah organisations.


Representatives of political parties in the country and 23 foreign and international organisations also attended the session.


Under the theme “New Start for Freedom and Independence ”, the conference reviewed the Palestinian people’s struggle for independence over the past 20 years and worked out orientations for the coming period as well as measures to boost party organisations.


Also on the agenda in following days, are discussions and voting on some important documents, including a political plat form, a peace negotiation progress and the party’s statutes. An election of members to the Revolutionary Council and the Central Committee’sis also planned.


The Vietnamese delegation was received by Mahmould Abbas, Fatah President and President of Palestine, who described the Vietnamese Party delegation’s participation in the conference as a manifestation of support and unchanged solidarity to the just cause of the Palestinian people.


He expressed his admiration of Vietnam ’s renewal process and socioeconomic development and wished to further boost friendship and cooperation between the two parties and countries.


He stressed the importance of enhancing economic and trade activities between the two countries in new situation.


The Vietnamese Party delegation also met with the head of the Fatah International Commission on boosting bilateral relations./.
