Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan is attending UNESCO’s 35th General Assembly which opened in Paris on October 6.

Deputy PM Nhan was accompanied by President of the National Committee of Vietnam UNESCO and Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son, Head of the Vietnam Permanent Mission to UNESCO Van Nghia Dung, and Head of the External Culture and UNESCO Department Pham Sanh Chau.

At this General Assembly, UNESCO’s future orientations and policies will be laid out and its programmes and operation budget for 2010-2011 will be approved.

The General Assembly’s working agenda will include a ministerial-level forum discussing strategies to recover from the economic crisis and map out UNESCO’s future, as well as round-table talks on education and UNESCO’s contributions to ocean management.

UNESCO’s 35th General Assembly, with the participation of representatives from 193 member countries, will close on October 23.

UNESCO will be led by Irina Bokova, former Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, replacing of Koichiro Matsura in its new term./.
