Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) is in Kuala Lumpur to attend the 69th annual general assembly of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) from December 8 to 12.
The UMNO’s 69th general assembly gathered 2,654 official delegates representing 3.4 million UMNO members, along with 33 delegations of political parties from 21 countries.
The Vietnamese delegation is led by Ngo Thi Doan Thanh, a member of the CPV Central Committee and the Vice Chairwoman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation.
Addressing the opening session, UMNO leader and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak underlined the significance of the 69th general assembly and called for increased solidarity within his party as well as among the parties in the ruling National Front, headed by the UMNO, amidst economic hardships and emerging problems.
He emphasised the UMNO’s role as the pillar in fostering Malaysia’s development and building the country into a major stakeholder in the region and the world.
During her stay, Thanh paid a courtesy call to UMNO leader and PM Najib Razak and met with Bin Tengku Mansor – UMNO Secretary General and Minister of the Federal Territories.
The UMNO officials spoke highly of the friendship and cooperation between their party and the CPV, which are line with the countries’ strategic partnership, and asked for the as-good-as-possible implementation of the two parties’ memorandum of understanding on cooperation.
For her part, Thanh valued Malaysia’s development achievements under the leadership of the UMNO, affirming the Vietnamese Party and State’s willingness to effectively coordinate with Malaysia at regional and international forums and towards solidarity, strength and equal development in the ASEAN Community.
She also informed the UMNO side about Vietnam’s situation and preparations for the CPV’s 12 th National Congress, slated for early 2016.
On the fringe of the UMNO’s general assembly, the Vietnamese delegation also had meetings with several international counterparts.-VNA
