Vietnam’s Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son and Australia’s Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in communications.

In their meeting in Australia’s capital city of Canberra on March 18 on the sidelines of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Australia, the two ministers briefed each other on each country’s situation and policy on the management of digital radio and television broadcast and post and telecommunications.

The two sides also shared experience and discussed cooperation direction in the time ahead.

Son appreciated the assistance and cooperation Australia has given to Vietnam in the fields of technology and telecommunications.

He suggested the two ministries assign affiliates to discuss in detail feasible cooperation activities to prepare for signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Son also took the occasion to request for Australia’s help in training telecommunications staff, experience sharing in the implementation of digital radio and television broadcast in Australia and promoting e-commerce.

Son expressed his hope the two sides will create favourable conditions in terms of policy and legal framework for their post and telecommunications enterprises to expand cooperation and seek investment opportunities.-VNA
