More than 40,000 students in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau have benefited from the Vietnam-Australia Vision Support Programme.
Figures announced at a November 26 ceremony to review the implementation of the programme from 2011-2013 show that 4,800 poor students living in the districts of Xuyen Moc and Dat Do and Ba Ria city were provided with free glasses, while 97 teachers and 142 health workers received training in eye care.
Implemented in the province since July 2011 by Australia’s Brien Holden Vision Institute, the programme opens up more opportunities for local residents, especially those in remote areas and people with disabilities, to access comprehensive eye care services, contributing to poverty reduction and social welfare in the province.
In the time ahead, the institute will continue its support to establish five community vision centres at other localities in the province.-VNA
