Australia is the leading nation in helping Vietnam train English language and military skills for personnel, especially the peacekeeping force, said Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty during his visit to Australia on November 8 -12.
The visit, made at the invitation of the Chief of the Royal Australian Defence Force, General Mark Binskin, aims to strengthen the friendly relations and defence cooperation between Vietnam and Australia.
The meeting between Sen. Lt. Gen. Do Ba Ty, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and his host General Mark Binskin focused on measures to effectively implement the content of the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed between the two countries in 2010.
Accordingly, the two countries will maintain dialogue and consultation mechanisms in the framework of multilateral and regional frameworks and continue exchanging delegations.
Sen. Lt. Gen. Do Ba Ty said Vietnam hopes to receive more assistance from Australia to alleviate war consequences as well as its support at regional and multilateral forums.-VNA
