Vietnam supports earnest dialogues and constructive cooperation in addressing human rights issues, Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh was speaking at the annual 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 16.

The head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN welcomed Iran’s commitments and its progress in raising the position of women and promoting the rights to education and healthcare as well as its cooperation with related UN mechanisms.

Addressing as a member nation of the UN Human Rights Council in the 2014-2016 tenure, Ambassador Thanh lauded the attainments Myanmar has gained in its reform process, national reconciliation, socio-economic development, gender equality enhancement, and protection of vulnerable groups.

He also addressed as a co-ordinator of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Council, stressing that the international community needs unbiased approach to human rights issues.

He called on the Council to reconsider Myanmar issues in its agenda.

The council will continue discussion on human rights situation in other countries before wrapping up its 28th session on March 27.-VNA
