National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu has voiced support to cooperation between the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC) and Vietnamese Foreign Ministry in resolving regional and global disputes through diplomatic means, and in line with international law.
In a reception to APRC Chairman Surakiart Sathirathai, who is also former Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in Hanoi on August 13, Luu said Vietnam always highly values APRC and the peaceful settlement of issues ranging from ethnic, religious, land boundary, maritime territorial to political disputes.
With a depth of experience, APRC will be a channel of assistance to the Southeast Asian nations in building peace and mediating regional disputes, towards realising a strong political and security ASEAN community in the coming time, the host said emphatically.
He noted confidence that APRC will continue doing its part to peace and stability, regionally and globally, adding that he hopes APRC and its chairman will help international community understand Vietnam as a peace-loving nation.
For his part, Surakiart expressed his wish to work with Vietnam to ensure peace in the region.
As a non-governmental organisation responsible for mediating and addressing conflicts behind the scenes on the Asian continent, APRC groups 25 members, including senior leaders and prominent scholars, the APRC chairman added.-VNA
