Modern distribution networks are considered an effective and sustainable sale channel for Vietnamese enterprises. However, local enterprises have faced a number of difficulties in terms of experience and international business knowledge.

Since the beginning of 2000, big foreign distributors such as Germany’s Metro Cash & Carry and France’s Auchan have been present in Vietnam. Vietnamese enterprises have been enlisted to supply goods through these distribution systems.

However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said there are few local businesses capable enough to meet the distributors’ standard requirements. They have only sold what they have produced without realising the requirements and needs of such distribution systems.

The ministry said it is businesses themselves that should make greater efforts to sell their products via foreign distribution channels. They should map out a serious and long-term strategy to sell their products to such promising yet choosy markets as Japan and the EU./.
