The Vietnam-Brazil Friendship and Cooperation Association made its debut at a congress held in the capital city of Hanoi on June 4.

Addressing the association establishment congress, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1989, the Vietnam-Brazil relations have been strengthened and extended in all fields.

Hong said he hoped that the association will take an active part in the implementation of activities for peace, solidarity and friendship.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Van Lang, who was elected as the association’s President, said the association will contribute to increasing mutual understanding, friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

During the congress, participants approved a plan of action for the association, focusing on popularising the images of Vietnam and Brazil, promoting exchanges between enterprises, increasing experience sharing in culture, education and sports, and jointly organising important events of the two countries.

Brazil set up its embassy in Hanoi in 1994, becoming the first South American country to do so./.
