Hanoi (VNA) – Ambassador Nguyen Phuong Nga, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, called on countries to continue committing resources to development at a session discussing the UN development cooperation held by the 71st UN General Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee on October 6.

Nga spoke highly of the UN’s support to development activities in countries and its efforts to push the implementation of the Joint Statement on the UN-ASEAN Comprehensive Partnership.

She also called for strengthening efforts to renovate the UN development system by further increasing coordination among the UN agencies, including the initiative “Toward Unity in Action”.

On behalf of ASEAN, the Vietnamese ambassador urged the UN and its member states to continue supporting South-South cooperation and trilateral collaboration.

At the event, developing countries expressed wish to rally more resources to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development adopted by world leaders in September 2015, stressing the need to improve the efficiency of using resources and renewing operations of the UN development system.

In the speech to the committee on October 3, Nga reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.

She urged countries to deliver the ODA commitments, facilitate trade and pay attention to challenges facing middle income countries.

The ambassador informed that Vietnam is striving to complete internal procedures to adopt the Paris Agreement.-VNA
