Vietnam, Cambodia enhance trade union ties

Trade union officials from Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on a cooperation deal between the two countries’ trade unions.
Trade union officials from Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding on a cooperation deal between the two countries’ trade unions.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Hanoi on July 20 between Dang Ngoc Tung, a member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL) and Vong Sovann, the President of the Cambodian Labour Union Federation (CLUF).

Under the cooperation pact, Vietnam and Cambodia will support the operations of trade unions from central to grassroots levels, especially those in border provinces.

They also pledged to share information and protect migrant workers and back each other up at international forums.

The VGCL will also support Cambodian labour union officials who are sent on long term training courses at the Vietnam Trade Union University and Ton Duc Thang University . It will also help to organise short courses for Cambodian officials.

At the meeting, Tung and Sovann underlined their mutual respect and said they hoped their relationship would grow further.

The CLUF delegation is on a visit to Vietnam from July 18-21./.
