Vietnam, Cambodia forge cooperation in search for soldier remains

Vietnam and Cambodia have agreed to intensify their cooperation in searching and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who laid down their lives in Cambodia during wartime.

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam andCambodia have agreed to intensify their cooperation in searching andrepatriating the remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who laiddown their lives in Cambodia during wartime.

The consensus was reached at the 17th meetingof the Special Working Committees of the Vietnamese and Cambodian Governmentsin Ho Chi Minh Cityon October 18.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Le Chiem, Deputy Minister ofNational Defence and Chairman of the Vietnamese Government’s Special WorkingCommittee, and SeangLapress, Advisor to the Cambodian Government and Vice Chairman of the Cambodian Government’sSpecial Working Committee, co-chaired the event.

Chiemspoke highly of the Cambodian committee’s coordination with the Vietnamese sidein the search and repatriation of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs who hadfallen down in the neighbouring country.

Despiteglobal uncertainties, the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has beenconsolidated and developed in the spirit of “fine neighbourliness, traditionalfriendship, and comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability,” hesaid.

Theofficer said during the 2017-2018 dry season, competent agencies of the twocountries have teamed up to search for the remains of 690 martyrs.

Inhis remarks, Seang Lapress expressed his belief that the two sides willcontinue with their coordination to meet the set plan for the work,contributing to building and consolidating the bilateral friendship.

Atthe meeting, the committees also consented to step up communications work andencourage residents of the two countries to provide information on martyrs andtheir graves.

Onthis occasion, the Vietnamese Special Working Committee handed over funding to theCambodian Special Working Committee to support its search and repatriation ofVietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts during the 2018-2019 period.–VNA

Vietnam, Croatia seek stronger law enforcement cooperation

Indian Defence Minister pays official visit to Vietnam

Following the ceremony, the two sides held talks during which the Vietnamese minister emphasised the significance of the visit as the two countries celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and recently upgraded ties to an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership under the spirit of “Shared Vision, Strategic Convergence and Substantive Cooperation,” during the state visit to India by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam from May 5-8.
